Where Do Our Graduates Go?

The NYCBE and the BME Department take great pride in the success and achievement of the 24 Ph.D. students who have completed their degrees in the NYCBE since it was established in 1994. Two of the students have been recipients of the Graduate Student Research Award at the annual BMES meeting, two have received American Heart Association postdoctoral fellowships, and another was the first author on the paper that received the 1996 ASME Melville Medal for highest literature contribution.

Fourteen of our 24 Ph.D.'s have obtained postdoctoral positions in universities or medical schools. The list of institutions includes UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Stanford University, University of Chicago Medical School, Harvard Medical School, MIT, NYU Medical School, Hospital for Special Surgery, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Princeton University, and University of Virginia.

Five of our alumni are currently holding tenure-track faculty positions at Duke University, University of Maryland, UNLV, Rutgers University, and Penn State University.

The ten graduates who have chosen to pursue a career in industry have been equally successful. One of them created his own company, General Information Technology, in New Jersey, while others have found more traditional positions in the Research & Development divisions of major companies (Aerospace Corporation, Lucent Technologies, W.R. Grace, Inc., Parallax Medical, Inc.) as well as startup companies.
